This exhilarating day tour will take you on a journey to Vestmannaeyjar Islands, with many sightseeing opportunities. You’ll get a glimpse of the famous Elephant Rock and stop by the Stórhöfði cape to watch puffins.
Next on, you’ll visit the Eldheimar Museum, colloquially known as Pompeii of the North, where you’ll get a chance to learn more about the island's volcanic eruption of 1973 and the effects it had on its inhabitants. After a quick lunch break, we’ll continue our tour to the area next to the harbor called Skansinn. The area is named after a fortress that used to stand there, whose purpose was to guard the inhabitants against invasion. There, you’ll see a Viking Church, a lighthouse, and an excellent view of the Heimaklettur cliffs.
Last but not least, you’ll get to hike up a volcano! Mt. Eldfell Volcano last erupted in 1973, and you will be able to see the remaining lava field from this eruption. The mountain peak offers the best views over the lava field, the island's town, and the surrounding islands.
